2) Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) 2025 request for proposals

Research and Education Grant Program: 
This grant program involves scientists, agricultural producers, and others using interdisciplinary approaches to advance sustainable agriculture at local and regional levels. With the collaboration of producers, projects must integrate rigorous research and education aiming to advance the three components of sustainable agriculture.
Pre-Proposals Due: November 10, 2025 4pm PT
Full Proposals due March 18, 2026 by invite only
Maximum Request Amount: $350,000

Professional Development Grant Program:
This grant program focuses on educating and training agricultural professionals to increase their understanding and proficiency in sustainable agriculture so they, in turn, can educate and train other agricultural professionals.

Maximum Request Amount: $100,000

Professional + Producer Grant Program:
This grant program involves agricultural technical advisor (main applicant) collaborating with producers to implement projects that address identified needs in sustainable agriculture.

Farmer/Rancher Grant Program:
The Western SARE Farmer/Rancher Grant Program focuses on advancing on-farm sustainability solutions by funding innovative producer-driven research and outreach. With a Farmer/Rancher Grant, an agricultural producer serving as the main applicant and Principal Investigator (PI) works with a Technical Advisor (TA) to develop a project.

Maximum Request Amount: $35,000

Local Education & Demonstration:
Successful proposals are required to integrate findings from previously-funded SARE research projects, translate those results into practical demonstrations of application, and bring those results into the field through demonstration and/or educational activities for agricultural professionals and producers.

Maximum Request Amount: $60,000
