Upcoming citrus extension meetings at Lindcove

Dear PCAs and Citrus Growers,

We are pleased to invite you to two upcoming educational events at the Lindcove Research and Extension Center (LREC) this October:

California Red Scale and Natural Enemies Workshop
Date: Wednesday, October 1, 2025

Time: 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM

Register by September 25 using the link; Workshop fees: $50. We have limited seats, 30 only, and payment will reserve you a spot. Write checks to “UC Regents” and CRS workshop on the memo.

This hands-on workshop will provide Pest Control Advisors with the knowledge and skills to recognize the life stages of California red scale and their natural enemies, Aphytis melinus and Comperiella bifasciata. Through a combination of lectures and microscope sessions, participants will learn how to accurately identify armored scale instars, differentiate between males and females, and detect both external and internal parasitism. The program will also cover how weather and climate influence CRS populations, monitoring methods, and best management practices including biological control, mating disruption, and chemical control.

Participants will gain practical experience evaluating scale-infested fruit, counting scale stages, and assessing levels of parasitism. A field visit will allow observation of ongoing CRS management trials, including pesticide effects, pheromone monitoring, and field-scale decision-making. By the end of the workshop, PCAs will be better equipped to determine parasitism levels in their orchards and make informed, sustainable decisions about scale management 4.5 DPR CE pending approval.

2nd Annual Fall Citrus Meeting
Date: Tuesday, October 7, 2025

Time: 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM
This 2nd Annual Fall Citrus Meeting will bring together UCANR specialists, researchers, and industry leaders to discuss current challenges and management strategies for California citrus production. The program begins with updates on the use of biofertilizers for HLB management, followed by an overview of laws, regulations, and industry priorities from Tulare County and the CCQC. Technical sessions will highlight spray penetration in citrus canopies, ACP management updates from Southern California, and pest pressures heading into the next season. Additional talks will address weed management, graft-transmissible and vectored citrus diseases, and emerging problems such as Botryosphaerias and Neoscytalidium canker. Later presentations will cover best practices for tissue sampling and CLas detection, and provide an international perspective with a review of citrus pests and IPM approaches in Tunisia. The meeting concludes with a speaker panel discussion and Q&A, giving attendees an opportunity to engage directly with experts on pressing issues facing the citrus industry.

5.5 DPR CE and 5.5 CCA hours pending approval.
