Nutrition Policy to Present at annual CalFresh Forum on expanding food access and supporting California families

The annual CalFresh Forum brings together people from across California to discuss ways to strengthen CalFresh, known nationally as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and expand food access. Nutrition Policy Institute’s policy team, Christina Hecht and Ken Hecht, guided a breakout session on “CalFresh, School Meals, and Hungry Kids,” exploring how school meal programs, offered free to all California students, can help offset reduced CalFresh benefits, support family food budgets, and increase awareness and participation. This year’s event will be held in collaboration with the LA Food Policy Council and will take place on October 23rd at Compton College in Los Angeles, California, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The day before the Forum, attendees are invited to join LA Foodscapes: Honoring the Hands Behind our Food on October 22nd, a special, free Food Day event at Compton College featuring a fireside conversation and locally sourced food. CalFresh Forum registration is free for college students and community members, and available online.
