It is fall and spring flowering bulbs are on my mind. What you can put into your garden is endless, but with the right timing, small projects have a significant impact. One example is this blog on using spring bulbs. I am not imagining Tulip mania era Darwin tulips, I am imagining the drought-tolerant bulbs that thrive in Mediterranean climates, and for a little effort on our part, just keep on giving and giving.
I will leave species Tulipa saxitalis to do their thing.
What troopers!
I would like to see more Ixia.
African corn lily (Babiana stricta), and more freesias would be nice.
I want fewer Sparaxis.
And I am reminded that some of these bulbs can become invasive.
Today I am remembering Watsonia.
Watsonia is a member of the Lily family, with sword-like foliage and trumpet-shaped flowers, often in shades of peach and orange, but also red, pink, white, or yellow. Without dividing every few years, there will be reduced blooming. Mine did not bloom last year, and I do not think that color worked. I will clear the foliage and dig up the corms, and eventually, I will decide where they belong. Fortunately, they can be stored.
