Under the Solano Sun

On a recent trip to the California Central Coast, we happened upon a magical wonderEl Moro Elfin Forest Natural Area. It was an especially wonderful surprise for us, as we had lived in Santa Barbara for over 20 years, and had been to the Central Coast many, many times over the years.

Inheriting a mature garden has been a rewarding and surprising experience. It seems as if every day something shoots from the soil that I had no idea was there, or something blooms revealing itself in its floral glory.

This spring I decided to try using potato grow bags. I planted seed potatoes in two bags and in one raised bed. I was late getting them planted, as we had been out of town. By the time they went into the soil, many of the seed potatoes had already sprouted.

There is a lot of twisting turning flowering field bindweed Convolvulus arvensis in my garden right now. Driving past fields near my home a couple of days ago it looked like snow had fallen. Not snow, but Field Bindweed.
