How to Handle with Wildlife Pests

Are you having trouble with squirrels? While they can be amusing to watch as they chase each other around tree trunks, they are hard on the garden (and on the car brakes when they dart in front of you in the road). For a deeper dive into the behavior of squirrels and their activities in our gardens, we recommend the webinar When Wildlife Become Pests, part of the University of California’s Integrated Pest Management Urban and Community Webinar Series. Led by Breanna Martinico, the UC Cooperative Extension human wildlife interactions advisor for Napa, Lake, and Solano Counties, this hour-long presentation explores the positive and negative aspects of vertebrate wildlife like coyotes, commensal rodents, and tree squirrels, including how they can become pests in urban environments. Martinico offers management tips for many of these animals.
