Content Governance Council focuses on building a better website experience

UC ANR has recently convened the Content Governance Council (CGC), a new group that will guide how we manage and grow our online presence through the Integrated Web Platform (IWP). The goal is simple: keep our website running smoothly and make it easier for Californians to connect with UC ANR’s resources.

The council was created with input from senior leadership and includes 18 representatives from across the organization, from Strategic Communications and IT to statewide programs, Research and Extension Centers, county offices, the Academic Assembly Council, and Staff Assembly. Members were chosen for their experience with web content as well as their ability to think about the needs of the whole organization.

“Our website has, in the past, been a little like the Wild West,” said council member Dustin Blakey, UC Cooperative Extension county director and farm advisor for Inyo and Mono counties. “We’ve always had great content, but it’s been very siloed, disorganized and hard to find. The governance council can help ANR do a better job of sharing our work with Californians and with each other.”

Good governance keeps UC ANR’s web content fresh, easy to find and accessible. It also improves how our resources appear in search results and ensures that visitors can quickly connect with the information they need. The CGC’s role is not to add roadblocks, but to create consistent standards that make content easier to publish, maintain and improve over time.

The council’s work is just beginning, and more guidance will be shared with the wider organization in the months ahead. The goal is to support everyone in cleaning up existing sites and communicating in a straightforward, helpful way to ensure content meets standards. With this structure in place, UC ANR is building a web platform that performs better, reflects our shared values and helps Californians find the resources they rely on with confidence.

The Content Governance Council members are John Bailey, Matthew Barnes, Dustin Blakely, Barbra Braaten, Ben Faber, Shane Feirer, Julie Finzel, Linda Forbes, Chris Greer, Shahen Halebien, Mike Hsu, Scott Leaf, Erik Porse, Su-Lin Shum / Tracy Roman, Tracy Schohr, Ian Smith, Andrew Waegli and Melissa Womack.
