I recently bought a new house in Fairfield. The first picture on the website that brought my attention to the house was a gnarly-looking tree at the front of the property.

Now that I have put away the Christmas decorations and have taken down the tree, it's time to evaluate what is going on outside. We have had some freezing temperatures but looking around my yard, my citrus trees are looking lovely.

When I started planting my winter vegetables this fall, I was looking forward to some radishes carrots, snow peas, spinach - the cool weather vegetables. As the seeds started sprouting and slowly growing through the cooler weather and shorter days, I started noticing an unexpected crop.

Recently I passed some leisure time on a Word Sleuth in the Daily Republic that focused on National Flowers of Various Countries. While trying to find the listed flowers in the puzzle, I saw some that I had never heard of.
