Volunteer Training

The goal of the training program is to educate volunteers in food safety and core food preservation techniques, so they can teach the general public how to safely preserve food short-term and long-term at home. Instruction provides practical courses in the following topics

  • Food safety
  • Boiling water and atmospheric steam canning
  • Pressure canning
  • Canning jams & jellies
  • Pickling and fermenting
  • Dehydrating fruits and vegetables
  • Freezing foods

El Dorado County is participating in a completely in-person training, while Amador, Calaveras, and Tuolumne Counties are participating in a hybrid (online and in-person) training in conjunction with various counties throughout the state. Please choose your program below for more information on your specific county's training schedule.
